From the Churchwardens

That which we have been anticipating for so long has actually happened!

By the time you read this, Rev Nigel and Mrs Liz Prior will be moving into the Rectory …

As mentioned last week, we are mindful of the need for everyone to allow them to settle and have a period of rest, relaxation and reflection, before the Institution, which will occur on 24th August, from which date Nigel will take up the duties of Rector of St Mary’s, Woodbridge and Priest-in-Charge of St Mary’s, Great Bealings. We pray for them both, in their first few days in our midst.

On Sunday, Junior Church families were invited to Gt Bealings for a Eucharist, conducted by Rev Dr John Hare, and a picnic. The weather meant that the service took place inside the church, but all was better in time for lunch al fresco. While the event will be evaluated, the response from those who attended has been very positive and will help to inform developments within the guidance from the Government and the Church of England. Thanks to John and Charlotte Gooch for creating this event.

From a business point of view, the last PCC Meeting of the interregnum took place on Tuesday and we are grateful for the steady chairmanship of Stephen Cole. While it is always invidious to draw attention to individuals, we should like to mention also the ongoing work of David Sharples, Virginia Spray, Sue Todd and Simon Morris, plus the Minute–taking of Pat Fenn and clerical tasks undertaken by Katherine Lowe, together with the amazing progress made in communications by Rita James. Bishop Martin tells us that very soon there will be more guidance on Public Worship, so we invite you to watch this space!

We hope that you are able to enjoy some of this lovely weather and, as we continue to care for each other, please accept our love, prayers and best wishes for you, your family and friends.

Barbara & Veronica
